Digital Matter offers reliable sensor monitoring with Acconeer radar
The world leader in battery-powered IoT asset tracking
Digital Matter designs and manufactures IoT asset tracking, sensor monitoring, and telematics devices. With a market-leading portfolio of battery-powered solutions, the products are used across industries such as supply chain, logistics, agriculture, and equipment management.
Digital Matter’s technology enables businesses to better understand their assets and operations by measuring and monitoring critical metrics and parameters, whilst providing asset positioning throughout the world. Digital Matter’s solutions offer smarter asset management, helping businesses derive more value and make data-driven decisions to optimize their operations.
Evolving traditional asset tracking
Traditional asset tracking and telematics solves the problem of “where is my asset” by providing a “dot on a map”. However, in a market where technological adoption can quickly provide a competitive edge, customers are now asking the underlying question: “what is my asset doing?” Knowing the location alone can provide clues, but to truly value-add location services, customers need greater insights into their remote assets.
Instead of simply knowing that a trailer started at point A and moved to point B, you can use connected sensors to now determine that it did so with something mounted above the trailer chassis. This is no longer just a journey but a job, enabling the owner of the asset to associate any expenses from that movement to chargeable work.
“The A121 is simpler, allowing for easier implementation into our design and reducing processing and power usage. Additionally, Acconeer provides excellent support, and their APIs and documentation are clear and straightforward, making the integration process seamless and user-friendly.”

Instant insights using Acconeer radar
The Acconeer A121 Radar is integrated into the new Barra Radar BLE device as a Bluetooth tag. The radar captures distance measurements, which are then interpreted within the device to determine whether an object was detected within a specified range. The brand new, and easy-to-use mobile app (iPhone/Android) enables installers to customize parameter thresholds.
Alternatively raw distance readings can be sent through to the Gateway device to be translated into fill levels for liquids or solids. When the gateway communicates with an IoT platform, the end user will know if there were goods in the back of their truck, vehicles in their loading bays, or the exact amount of water in their rainwater tank. Additionally, with the new mobile application for real-time radar measurement visualization, users can set up device proximity scanning, QR code scanning for streamlined setup, and advanced radar configuration and control.
Components without compromise
Digital Matter chose Acconeer because the A121 radar aligns perfectly with their commitment to low-power tracking solutions, where every micro-amp counts. Digital Matter were particularly impressed by the quality and accuracy, but what truly stood out was its ability to be integrated into a battery-powered device without any compromises. With just two AA batteries, the A121 enables customers to access precise distance readings for years, enhancing both the efficiency and lifespan of Digital Matter’s devices.
The latest generation of Acconeer’s radar sensors has the world’s lowest power consumption and can be battery powered with a lifetime of up to 10 years.
