Versatility made for any weather

Snower utilizes radar technology to detect snow in natural and urban environments, Acconeer´s pulsed coherent radar is specificly used to measure metrics such as the amount of snowfall and/or the amount of snow since last snow removal on the road, current snow hight as well as current status of roads, roofs and other enviroments, both urban and rural. Their customers come from different segments such as maintenance companies for buildings and roads. These customers gain knowledge of when and where to operate when the snow starts to create problems.

Similar tehnology is also used as the device can be deployed as small weather station to provide snow and weather data in remote locations to understand weather impacts. For example, avalanche mitigation or hydro power optimization.

Keeping up with the climate

The Snower device is a compact and robust solution for reliable snow monitoring in harsh winter environments. With dimensions of 90 × 90 × 55 mm, it is easy to install in remote or exposed locations where accurate snow data is essential. Built for extreme conditions, it features an IP67-protected cover with an integrated radiation shield and rain cover, ensuring dependable performance in snow, ice, and moisture. The unit operates in temperatures from -40 to 85 °C, making it well suited for demanding winter climates.

A long-lasting power system provides 5–10 winters of battery life, even in tough conditions. Combined with GPS tracking, the device can be easily located and managed when deployed across wide, snow-covered areas.

“Integrating Acconeer’s XM125 radar sensor into our Snower One device gate provides unprecedented precision and flexibility. With this new technology, we can offer our customers accurate data on different microclimates.

A nordic collaboration

Snower IoT-devices detect the snow with the Acconeer radar. The data is analyzed and processed in the cloud and sent to the customer’s own interface via API or through Snower´s own operating system. The customer can then make data-driven decisions in real time and reduce unnecessary costs.

Acconeer´s sensor is an important part of the Snower´s measurements units which are capable to withstand even the harshest conditions and hence need a lot from the hardware. The module itself is based on a system from iProtoxi, also a Finnish company that provides complete IoT systems designed and developed for harsh environments. An important goal for Snower is that all parts are produced close to their operation in Finland.
