Acconeer has sold more than half a million A1 radar sensors

By

As of today, Acconeer has sold more than 500 000 A1 radar sensors in total since the company started selling Evaluation Kits (EVKs) in February 2018.

Lars Lindell, CEO Acconeer, comments: "Today we ship our radar sensor number 500 000 since we started selling it online, and we are very happy to pass yet another milestone. I February 2020, 24 months after sales start, we reached 100 000 sensors sold and seven months later we passed 200 000. Now in less than a year we have sold an additional 300 000 radar sensors, despite a pandemic and global shortage of components which have slowed down our customers' production. We are now looking forward to passing the next milestone of having sold one million sensors."

Starting in 2021, Acconeer reports accumulated sales in financial reports, by the end of Q2 2021 the company had sold in total 440 000 radar sensors.

Acconeer announces A121 pulsed coherent radar sensor, new high-performance product in A1 family

By

Today Acconeer is announcing a new product in the A1 pulsed coherent radar family, based on the design of A111 but with extended performance. The product is planned to be ready for mass-production in the second half of 2022.

The new product will complement the A111 radar sensor and will have even lower power-consumption, increased performance and improved data quality . This will be of use in advanced power-critical use cases such as gesture-control using micro-motions. The A121 will also have support for flexible power supply, with an IO interface of 1.8-3.3 V and will be qualified for AECQ-100 grade 2 to ensure operation over a wider temperature range. Being part of the A1 family, A121 is pin compatible with A111. More information about technical features and intended use cases will be shared closer to when the product is available on the market.

Acconeer launched the A111 radar sensor during the spring 2018, and the A1 product family will be complemented with A121 in second half of 2022. The next generation product family, A2, which is co-developed with Alps Alpine, will be launched in 2024 as previously announced.

Acconeer, Imagimob and OSM Group shows gesture-controlled in-ear headphones

By

As previously announced, Acconeer, Imagimob and OSM Group have been working together on gesture-controlled in-ear headphones. A working prototype is now ready, providing a platform which enables customers to bring gesture-controlled in-ear headphones to the market in a short time.

Gesture control is a perfect fit for in-ear headphones, since the earbud is small and not visible to the user, which makes physical buttons difficult to use. The AOI Touchless In-Ear Headphones, a platform for control of music and calls with simple gestures is now ready for customers to start commercialization projects. The project combines Imagimob AI SaaS solution and its world-leading expertise in Edge AI with Acconeer's high-accuracy, low-power radar sensor in a hardware designed and manufactured by OSM Group. Based on this, a prototype with a gesture hit rate of more than 96% and latency less than 500 ms has been developed.

The in-ear headphones has the Acconeer A1 radar sensor and an AI model by Imagimob with memory footprint of 17 kB RAM & 113 kB flash running on an ARM Cortex® M4 MCU from STMicroelectronics, all built into hardware and mechanics by OSM Group with a weight of only 0.17oz per earbud.

Gesture control and touchless user interfaces has become a hot topic as the pandemic has swept over the world, and the software and hardware platform developed in this project can also be used in a wide range of other electronic devices to implement gesture control. The touchless gesture control market is primarily driven by factors such as rising hygiene consciousness and low maintenance cost. Touchless interfaces in addition to gesture controls are becoming widely popular as they provide the abilities to interact with devices without physically touching them.

The project is part of the strategic innovation program Smarter Electronic Systems – a joint investment by Vinnova, Formas and Swedish Energy Agency.

Acconeer receives funding of SEK 4M for project on sleep monitoring with Sleepiz and University of Gothenburg

By

Sweden's Innovation Agency has granted Acconeer 4 million SEK for research on sleep monitoring using radar. The project will run for three years starting in April 2021 and will be a consortium with Sleepiz based in Switzerland and the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

The aim of the project is to deliver a revolutionary contactless device for diagnosis and monitoring, where Acconeer's next generation pulsed coherent radar sensor will be used to monitor cardio-respiratory patterns. Sleepiz already has a sleep monitoring device on the market and their expertise in the field combined with Acconeer's radar research will result in a new product that will be validated by University of Gothenburg's Sleep Medicine Centre.

"We are delighted to work with Acconeer to co-develop a customized radar chip for improved functionality and features, as well as to do prototype validation with University of Gothenburg's Sleep Medicine Centre" says Soumya Dash, CEO at Sleepiz.

Gesture-controlled in-ear headphone by Acconeer, Imagimob and OSM Group soon ready for commercialization

By

As announced last year, Acconeer, Imagimob and OSM Group are working together on gesture-controlled in-ear headphones. A working prototype will be available in Q1 2021, and the platform is soon ready for commercialization. Selected customers can now schedule exclusive demos of the prototype.

Gesture control is a perfect fit for in-ear headphones, since the earbud is small and not visible for the user, which makes physical buttons difficult to use. With the small footprint of Acconeer's A1 radar sensor, and the efficient AI software by Imagimob, it is possible to get it into a device as small as the in-ear headphone.

The project combines Imagimob AI SaaS solution and its world-leading expertise in Edge AI with Acconeer's high-accuracy, low-power radar sensor in a hardware designed and manufactured by OSM Group. The aim is to provide a solid platform targeting headphone companies looking to bring gesture-control into in-ear headphones to the market in a short time, while keeping accuracy and robustness high. However, the software and hardware platform developed in the project can also be used in a wide range of other electronic devices to implement gesture control.

Gesture control and touchless user interfaces has become a hot topic as the pandemic has swept over the world. The touchless gesture control market is primarily driven by factors such as rising hygiene consciousness and low maintenance cost. The project is part of the strategic innovation program Smarter Electronic Systems – a joint investment by Vinnova, Formas and Swedish Energy Agency.

Imagimob and Acconeer are both showcasing at the all-digital CES 2021 January 11-14.
