Large Japanese electronics company launches module based on Acconeer’s A1 radar sensor

The new module is a connected, battery-powered device targeting smart presence, distance and level measurements, as well as other radar-based IoT use cases. The module, which is now available to order, can for example be integrated into spaces such as bathrooms or meeting rooms to detect people presence, or put in tanks for measuring liquid levels. Acconeer estimates the value of the launch to USD 200k annually. Sales to this customer are reflected in sales to Acconeer’s distributors.

The company behind this module is a top player in the Japanese electronics market, with a long history of providing components and modules globally. By combining Acconeer’s high-precision, ultra-low power radar sensor with their expertise in module development, a unique offering is created for customers in Japan and worldwide.

Acconeer again on ‘Fast 50’ fastest growing tech companies in Sweden

On October 31, Deloitte released their new Technology Fast 50 ranking of Swedish tech companies for 2023, and Acconeer is on the list for the second consecutive year.

“We’re proud and pleased to yet again confirm that Acconeer is on the list of Sweden’s fastest growing tech companies. This is the second year in a row our company reaches the top section.” CEO Lars Lindell comments.

Every year since 1995, Deloitte has composed ‘Technology Fast 50′ lists to recognize tech companies’ progress. Today, these rankings are done in over 20 countries across the world and in separate local regions in larger countries such as the US.

Interim report Q3 2023

In the third quarter 2023, Acconeer's net sales amounted to kSEK 8,379. More than 11,000 modules and approximately 96,000 sensors were sold. In total, Acconeer has sold 1,752,365 radar sensors and 160,903 modules since launch. In the quarter 364 evaluation kits were sold, and an accumulated 7,033EVKs have been sold since launch. The gross margin in Q3 was 67% and 12 new customer products were launched.

CEO Lars Lindell comments: “We are very happy to see good progress in the automotive industry, where we now have four launched car models in total from one of the largest players in the industry. This is pleasing as it indicates that the system for access control incorporating Acconeer's sensor has become a standard product, and we hope for many more launches going forward. We were also happy to see as much as twelve launched customer products.”

THIRD QUARTER

  • Net sales for the third quarter amounted to kSEK 8,379 (12,066).
  • The gross margin on sales of goods was 67 (58)%.
  • Result after taxes amounted to kSEK-9,590 (-10,648).

Acconeer receives order from Nexty worth USD 150,000

The order relates to Acconeer's pulsed coherent radar sensor A1 for mass production. NEXTY Electronics is a leading Japanese distributor with a particularly strong position in the automotive industry.

CEO Lars Lindell comments: "Nexty is our distributor for the car industry and this volume order shows that mass production is now starting for the car models at a European car manufacturer in the premium segment where we previously communicated design wins. We are of course very happy about this and expect that our volumes to the automotive industry will continue to increase in the coming years.”

In addition to publicly announced orders, Acconeer continuously receives orders of smaller amounts which are not publicly announced as they are not considered to affect the share price.

SALES START FOR A NEW CAR MODEL USING ACCONEER RADAR SENSOR WITH AN ESTIMATED TOTAL VALUE OF USD 350K

Acconeer's A1 pulsed coherent radar sensor is used in a new car model from one of the top two American high-volume car makers for the use case access control, which allows touchless opening of the trunk of a car. Acconeer estimates the total value of this model to USD 350k spread over seven years. Sale to this customer is reflected in sales to Acconeer's distributors.

This new car model follows three previous models from the same car maker.

The automotive industry is an important business segment for Acconeer. Acconeer’s radar is the pioneer to replace existing capacitive solutions for access control and the company expects radars to completely replace existing solutions. Based on this, Acconeer expects their sales to the automotive industry to grow significantly over the coming years.

Acconeer’s Pulsed Coherent Radar sensors now fully certified according to new US regulations

As of today, Acconeer’s A121 and A111 Pulsed Coherent Radar sensors are certified as compliant with the new rules for the 60GHz frequency band in the USA. The compliance has been verified by Cetecom advanced following the recent adoption of the new regulations.

CEO Lars Lindell comments: “This is an expected yet very important step for us and our customers on the American market, since it simplifies the launch of new products in the US significantly. As previously communicated, we are ramping up our sales activities in USA, and we look forward to seeing an uptake in activity and hopefully sales in the region.”

The grant is a modular approval including the use of lenses. This will reduce the cost of certification and time to market for Acconeer’s customers.

Acconeer signs distribution agreement with Turkish Ansal Component

The agreement concerns Acconeer's radar sensors along with related modules and evaluation kits (EVK) for the Turkish market. Ansal Component provides component supply services to organizations that provide R&D services and produce Electronic Systems in Turkey.

CEO Lars Lindell comments: “The Turkish market is large and strategically important in the region, and we are happy to sign Ansal as our distributor to better access that area.”

These new car models follow last year’s launch of an electrical vehicle from the same car maker.

Interim report Q2 2023

In the second quarter 2023, Acconeer's net sales amounted to kSEK 6,399. Close to 15,000 modules and 67,000 sensors were sold. In total, Acconeer has sold 1,656,662 radar sensors and 149,678 modules since launch. In the quarter as much as 425 evaluation kits were sold, and an accumulated 6,669 EVKs have been sold since launch. The gross margin in Q2 was 61% and eight new customer products were launched.

CEO Lars Lindell comments: “We are of course disappointed by the weak sales, but seeing strong sales of EVKs and high customer activity we are convinced that the weak sales are due to the general temporary industry downturn. Besides this, the most important event during Q2 was the new regulations for the US market, which will open up for new and existing customers to expand their business in North America.”

SECOND QUARTER

Acconeer partners with Convergence Promotions to expand sales network in North America

Acconeer has signed a contract with Convergence Promotions LLC to promote and sell Acconeer’s Pulsed Coherent Radar products on the North American market including the US, Canada and Mexico. The contract means that Convergence Promotions will promote Acconeer products and build a large network of sales representatives, starting from today. This way Acconeer will complement the current sales setup with much increased coverage all over North America.
