Acconeer launches first A121-based radar module – XM125 Entry+ Module

By

The previously announced XM125 Entry+ Module with ultra-low power consumption, outstanding system cost and solderable design has today been shipped to distributors and will be available for customers to buy in the next few days. It is the first module from Acconeer featuring the A121 Pulsed Coherent Radar sensor. An evaluation kit (EVK), XE125, making it possible for customers to evaluate and develop their XM125-based products is also delivered today.

Thanks to its small footprint and solderable design, the XM125 Entry+ Module is optimal for customers' integration into mass-produced solutions. In combination with the XE125 EVK, and support in reference applications and Exploration Tool, this enables smooth product development and short time-to-market.

Mikael Rosenhed, Head of Product Management, comments: "With the rich data from the A121 sensor, we have been able to write a module software that pushes performance and current consumption to the limits, and we are proud to say that this is our most power-efficient module to date without compromising on data quality or accuracy. We know that we have many customers waiting for the first A121-based module, and we are excited to see what innovative products they will create based on the XM125."

Acconeer's first module, the ARM Cortex M7-based XM112 High-Performance Module, was released in December 2018, allowing customers to evaluate their use cases on an embedded system with high performance. Since then, the module portfolio has been extended and with the release of the XM125 there will be a total of six modules available in three different segments: High-Performance Modules for customers who want high processing power, IoT Modules for use cases where built-in connectivity is needed and Entry Modules for lowest possible system cost.

Acconeer’s pulsed coherent radar sensor A121 ready for mass production

By

As of today, Acconeer's latest radar sensor A121 is compliant with JEDEC and AEC-Q100 grade 2. This means that it is now ready for mass production and will be available for customers to buy through distributors by the end of March.

A121 has been tested against JEDEC JESD47 ("Stress-Test-Driven Qualification of Integrated Circuits") which is a global industry standard for ensuring component reliability. The tests consist of various stress-related tests, which include simulated long-term use (more than 10 years in normal use), resistance to cold, heat, voltage, humidity and electrostatic discharges.

Furthermore, the A121 has completed AEC-Q100 grade 2 qualification for integrated circuits in automotive applications. This specification has been established by the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) to define qualification requirements and procedures for integrated circuits used in the automotive industry. An AEC – Q100 qualified device means that the device has passed the specified stress tests and guarantees a certain level of quality and reliability between -40°C and +105°C.

Mikael Rosenhed, Head of Product Management Acconeer, comments: "This is an important step for Acconeer as it means that we now can provide our best sensor yet to customers for mass production. The evaluation kit (EVK) for A121 has been available since summer 2022, and we have several customers who already have come far in their development of products using A121."

Acconeer and three major WiGig stakeholders submit joint regulation proposal to FCC

By

Acconeer has agreed with three large global tech companies about a joint proposal to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for new regulations of the 60GHz frequency band in the US. The proposal makes it possible for Acconeer's and other mmWave radar technologies to co-exist with WiGig in the 60GHz band. The submitted proposal can be read at FCC's website.

WiGig, also known as 60 GHz Wi-Fi, is a communication protocol that shares the same unlicensed frequency band as Acconeer's Pulsed Coherent Radar as well as other mmWave technologies. The FCC is currently working on new regulations for the 60GHz frequency band, which will be important for Acconeer's activities on the American market and open up for new innovative applications. With new regulations in place, future certifications will also be less complicated and time-consuming for customers.

CEO Lars Lindell comments: "We see this agreement with the WiGig companies about a co-existence proposal as an important step towards US regulation that is beneficial for Acconeer, our customers, and the American public."

Acconeer develops module based on the new A121 pulsed coherent radar sensor

By

The new module – which will be the first to integrate the new A121 radar sensor – will be called XM125 Entry+ Module. It will have ultra-low power consumption, outstanding system cost and solderable design for optimized integration into mass-produced solutions. The module is planned to be available for customers in Q1 2023.

The XM125 Entry+ Module will have the same form factor as the previously released Entry+ Modules XM123 and XM124, with a footprint of only 15×18,6 mm which is the new standard for modules featuring the A1 sensor family including both A111 and A121. XM125 can be delivered in tape-and-reel format which makes it easy for customers to put into mass production. An evaluation kit (EVK), XE125, will also be available to make it possible for customers to evaluate and develop their XM125-based products using Acconeer's popular Exploration Tool.

CEO Lars Lindell comments: "We are happy to announce our first A121-based module, which will expand our successful integration-ready Entry Module range with our best sensor so far. Our modules have been very popular, and last week we could announce that we have sold more than 100 000 modules. Now we look forward to seeing what innovative products our customers will use the XM125 in."

Acconeer's first module, the ARM Cortex M7-based XM112 High-Performance Module, was released in December 2018, allowing customers to evaluate their use cases on an embedded system with high performance. First car using Acconeers A1 radar sensor now launched

By

Acconeer's A1 pulsed coherent radar sensor is used in an electrical car model from one of the top two American high-volume car makers for the use case access control, which allows touchless opening of the trunk of a car. This is the first commercially available car using the company's technology. Based on forecasts from the distributor, the value of the launch of this one model is estimated to USD 600 000 over three years. Sales to this customer is reflected in sales to Acconeer's distributors.

CEO Lars Lindell comments: "To see the first car on the streets with our radar sensor in it is a huge milestone for Acconeer, and this is of course an important step for us as a company. We have recently stated that we believed that a car launch was very close, and now we have been able to confirm the launch. In combination with the previously communicated design wins with a European premium car manufacturer, this launch proves that our product is attractive and competitive for use in the automotive industry."

A very important step to be able to achieve this launch was the modular approval certification of the product against Acconeers waiver granted by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in July 2021.
